Captain's armband Cristiano Ronaldo angrily threw to floor while playing for Portugal is put up for auction to help pay for baby's spinal surgery https://ift.tt/3fvcvlq

The captain's armband which Cristiano Ronaldo threw to the ground in anger after Portugal's World Cup qualifier against Serbia has now been put up for auction to help pay for a baby's medical treatment.Ronaldo ripped off the armband and slammed it on the stadium after seeing his last-minute goal ruled out in Portugal's 2-2 draw in Belgrade last week. Ronaldo was furious after what looked like a legitimate goal, which would have won the game for Portugal, was not given by the referee or his assistants.Ronaldo's shot appeared to have crossed the line before being cleared away by Aleksandar Mitrovic's sliding clearance, but it was not awarded. After vehemently protesting with the officials - and being booked for dissent, Ronaldo stormed off the field, throwing down the armband in disgust. Now a charity organization, which is raising money for a six-month-old boy from Serbia with spinal muscular atrophy to undergo surgery, has managed to obtain the armband.According to the Associated Press, the charity got the armband from a stadium worker who picked it up after Ronaldo threw it away and stormed off before the final whistle. The group said the armband, which is blue with the capital letter C in white, will be put on an online auction for three days. And any money received will be used in funding the boy's treatment. The post Captain's armband Cristiano Ronaldo angrily threw to floor while playing for Portugal is put up for auction to help pay for baby's spinal surgery appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog. New Lagos anti-cultism law: Lagos police prosecutes 60 suspected cultists https://ift.tt/3m9WWBi

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday March 31, arraigned sixty suspected cultists arrested at various points and communities in the state before the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba with the new Lagos State Anti Cultism Law, 2021.  The police prosecutors filed thirteen (13) count charges against the sixty suspects for various offenses including Conspiracy, Murder, Cultism, Unlawful Possession of Firearms and Breach of Public Peace under the new Lagos State Anti Cultism Law, 2021 and Criminal Laws of the Lagos State, 2015.  The new Lagos State Anti Cultism Law provides that, on conviction, cult members risk jail term of twenty-one (21) years, while their parents risk 2 years imprisonment or fine of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (#500,000).  The Commissioner of Police had coordinated some raids and operations around the state, especially, in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State to go after cultists and hoodlums who have been terrorizing the entire state and bring them to book. A statement released by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the state police command, says the police commissioner described the new law as a blessing and catalyst to eradicating cultism across the length and breadth of the state as the law caters for many loop holes in the previous laws pertaining to cult-related matters in the state. He further appreciated the Government and good people of Lagos State for making the law a reality and success which is now applicable in the state.  The post New Lagos anti-cultism law: Lagos police prosecutes 60 suspected cultists appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog. We have traces of the sponsors of those who came here - Governor Umahi reacts to the killing of 15 persons by suspected herdsmen in Ebonyi community https://ift.tt/3fwdwKi

Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi, has condemned the killing of no fewer than 15 persons in Egedegede community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state by suspected herdsmen. LIB had earlier reported that many people have been killed following an attack launched by suspected Fulani herdsmen in four villages in Ebonyi State. The affected villages are Umuhuali, Nkalaha, Obeagu, Nkalagu, and Amazu in Ishielu Local Government Area of the southeast state. Read here. While visiting the affected communities today March 31, Governor Umahi, said despite protecting Fulani herdsmen in the state and South-East region, the herders went ahead to kill his people. Governor Umahi said he knows the sponsors of the killer herdsmen but would not disclose their identities yet.  Speaking to newsmen, he said "We are in Ishielu where the AK-47 herdsmen came on Monday and killed 15 of the members of this community. I remember a year ago that we had an incident of the killing of two herdsmen within this same location. And immediately, the security agencies and local government chairman and community leaders all came together to condemn the attack and killing and we immediately asked the security agencies to fish out the people who did.We fished them out and as we talk, they are standing trial in Ebonyi State. The community, government and security agencies appeased the herdsmen and made peace with them. And so, it is very shocking that overnight, all the herdsmen in Ishielu LGA vacated which means that the local herdsmen are part of the conspiracy of the killing of our people. They vacated despite all the efforts that my government and the governors of the South-East and security agencies have been making to give them full protection, not only in Ebonyi State but also in the South-East. We feel so sad, so worried for our country Nigeria and we are short of words. We have traces of the sponsors and the sponsors of those who came here. I will not disclose them."he said The post We have traces of the sponsors of those who came here - Governor Umahi reacts to the killing of 15 persons by suspected herdsmen in Ebonyi community appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog. Feminism led to an increase in domestic violence in marriages - Pete Edochie https://ift.tt/3uf6Bcx

Pete Edochie has blamed feminism for the rise in domestic violence and broken marriages. Speaking to BBC Igbo, the veteran actor stated that feminism isn't our culture as Africans. He added that when a woman leaves her parents and follows her husband, she's to do whatever her husband wants her to do. He further stated that in most cases of domestic violence, women are to blame because they are no longer submissive. He also complained that women today don't know how to do basic things like cooking to keep their husbands happy, despite getting a formal education. He said his mother didn't get a formal education, yet she cooks a variety of dishes very well in a way that's pleasing to his father. "Any woman who cannot cook cannot call herself a woman, no," he said.  He continued: "This thing called feminism, that's what leads to women getting beaten in marriages.  "When you talk to a woman, she will respond to you. When she responds to you, you won't be able to bear it so you'll stretch out your hand and beat her up." He said he doesn't like seeing women cry because it touches him deeply but women are the ones who do things that lead to the beating. He went on to say that women's understanding is limited. He added that he has dealt with a lot of women, including working with them as their boss and he has come to the conclusion that their understanding is small. He said in Igbo: "Its not everything they explain to you that you people understand. For the record, women's understanding is limited, let me tell you the truth. "I don't hate them but I've had dealings with them a lot, including those at work where I'm the head. Their understanding is limited to a large extent, do you understand?" He also insisted that the African culture doesn't worship women like they do in western countries. He said: "This thing called feminism has no usefulness. We don't worship women in our culture. "White people worship women. "If you notice in the western countries, three or four women could arise and say a man touched them inappropriately at work and the man will resign for that reason. Such a thing can't happen in our land. "In our culture, if as a woman, no man tells you how good looking you are, you'll stay in a place, crying, and asking yourself if you're not good enough to look at. This is how our culture is." He reiterated that he's a man who adheres strongly to our culture and traditions. For the African men, he said a number of them now practice modern trends that are not African, like kneeling to propose to a woman. He went on to condemn this practice. "Kneeling down to give a woman a ring because you want to marry her is not our culture as Igbo people. "Any man who kneels in front of the woman he wants to marry, what that means is that he has taken the headship of his family and handed it over to the woman, that's what it means." Watch the full video below.  The post Feminism led to an increase in domestic violence in marriages - Pete Edochie appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog. Claims soldiers killed protesters at Lekki Toll Gate not verified - US report https://ift.tt/39xGm9j

The United States government has said the claims End SARS protesters were killed at Lekki Toll Gate could not be verified. In a report by the US Department of State, tagged '2020 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Nigeria,' released on March 30, 2021, the United States said accurate information on fatalities resulting from the shooting was not available at the end of the year. The report reads: "On October 20, members of the security forces enforced curfew by firing shots into the air to disperse protesters who had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to protest abusive practices by the Nigerian Police Force's Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). "Accurate information on fatalities resulting from the shooting was not available at year's end. Amnesty International reported 10 persons died during the event, but the government disputed Amnesty's report, and no other organisation was able to verify the claim. "The government reported two deaths connected to the event. One body from the toll gate showed signs of blunt force trauma. A second body from another location in Lagos State had bullet wounds. The government acknowledged that soldiers armed with live ammunition were present at the Lekki Toll Gate."At year's end the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution continued to hear testimony and investigate the shooting at Lekki Toll Gate."  Amnesty International and CNN have amplified the claims by some of the protesters that there were fatalities and killings during the shootings by the military at the tollgate on the fateful day. The report by the US State Department also stated reports of arbitrary and unlawful killings related to internal conflicts in the North-East and other areas. It listed abduction by criminal groups in the Niger Delta, South-East and the North-West, often to collect ransom payments as one of the security concerns in Nigeria. The post Claims soldiers killed protesters at Lekki Toll Gate not verified - US report appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
